What To Do When Your Daughter Misbehaved At Her Friend’s Party

In general, it is much more difficult for preschoolers to give gifts to other children than adults, because the gifts are often things that they would like themselves. This is perfectly natural. It is not “bad” behavior, although it does have the potential to turn into a temper tantrum if poorly handled.
Here are few ideas that may help for the next party:
If you involve your child in purchasing the present, get something for her at the same time - even if it is just a lollipop or a few stickers. Walking into a toy store to buy something for another child without getting something herself, too, simply too frustrating for a child this stage.

Let your child help you wrap the present, even if she only chooses the paper or cuts the tape. This will make it easier for her to part with the gift because it allows her to show off her handiwork to her friend.
Let her rehearse handling the present to her friend. This gives her a chance to master that social skill and to feel proud of her accomplishment. Praise her when daughter can “borrow” your emotional strength and regain control of herself.
